Public Sector Switches on to ‘Re-Lamping’

Public Sector Switches on to ‘Re-Lamping’

Wirral-based UKLED has switched on the New Year with several local authorities and public sector contract wins.

The company, which offers a ‘Relamping Service’ (replaces conventional and low energy tubes and bulbs with LED equivalent). Recent projects include Leeds Spire Hospital, University of Bolton and Mathew Arnold School Oxfordshire.
In Merseyside, the company has been appointed to carry out a Relamp of a primary school in Wallasey. Work is soon to be completed at St Georges School (lower Site) in Wallasey Village.

Following a survey to establish current energy usage, carbon footprint, maintenance and financial cost of the existing lighting system, the school felt it was a great opportunity to significantly reduce their energy consumption.

Typical cost and energy savings stand at between 70 and 90%. With St Georges a reduction in excess of 70% is expected and will reduce annual lighting costs from £6,616.51 to £1,835.36.

Due to the quality and durability of the products combined with low energy use, the system has an expected life cycle of 10 years compare with anything between 1 and 3 years for traditional bulbs and tubes.

St Georges School chose to fund the project through the Government Carbon Trust initiative with Siemens lease purchase finance scheme, which offers a 5 year monthly repayment plan that covers the cost of the capital outlay and provides a return of investment in two and a half years.

Mike Parker of UKLED said: “It’s great to start the New Year with a strong cross section of both public and private sector customer contract wins. The majority of our first year (last year) was spent marketing and promoting our business. We undertook a large number of trials to demonstrate the effectiveness of LED Relamping, and now with strong results being realised, these businesses and organisations are now giving us the green light for a full or partial Relamp.

“The figures most definitely speak for themselves and aside from the immediate cost savings, there is a considerable reduction in maintenance and product replacement. Our affiliation with the Carbon Trust allows customers to pay back through long term payment plans, making any initial outlay viable and with a speedy return on investment, depending on how often and how heavily you use lighting.”
